Polaric was a school project to explore the game engine Unity. This was my first experience in an actual engine and was able to make the game in less than 2 weeks. The level design however was a different story. A learning curve is important for a game. Especially if the game has simple mechanics that can lead to different outcomes. That is why I am so proud of this game and the fun that’s to be had in here. I tested it a lot and my peers enjoyed it even doing speed runs.

If I were to continue on the game I would try to integrate more interesting mechanics besides just attraction and repelling. However the simplicity adds to the charm of this game.

Along the way I learnt many things about platformers and what to do to make them feel good. For example “coyote frames”, a term that refers to being able to perform ground actions for a split second when running of a platform. The gameplay with and without this changes so much of the game feel.
